As promised in the post above to mark Neve’s 12th birthday, I am sharing a list!
For me, the power of social media is in connecting people through writing and speaking. It is these connections that spark understanding, resonance, collaborations, ideas and relationships. The world is awash with potent and dynamic communication and it is easy to feel overwhelmed. I hope that by curating a list of links, I might bring some simplicity and order to some of what interests me and possibly you.
For now, this list is a one off, to mark Neve’s 12th birthday. If you like it, do let me know. The links I am sharing here are to writing, speaking, and art that I have found thought provoking or resonant. Including them here is not an endorsement of the website, the author or the topic. Certainly this list is unique to me but I hope some of it is enjoyable and compelling.
In the interests of good enough, rather than perfectionism, I will be sharing them without any individual explanations for why. If you spot any issues, please let me know.
So here goes. A list of books, poetry, podcasts, a video, a newsletter, a report, a variety of articles, an art exhibition, and a theatre production.
Books
The Story of a Heart, by Dr Rachel Clarke
The Golden Rule, by Dr Lucy Pollock
Elizabeth is Missing, by Emma Healey
The Archeology of Loss by Sarah Tarlow
Poetry
The Contradiction
The absence contradicts itself:
the missing conjures what we miss.
You are not here, I’m not myself,
but still I talk to you like this.
You’re in the crowd, the news, the glimpse -
I make you there when you’re not there.
I trace your steps, I map your face,
I say your name, see you in air.
You’re all I know and so unknown.
I cannot hold you, yet I do:
please let me hold you in my head
and where you are now, hold me too.
How can you be so near and far?
You are not here. But here you are.
